Try These Cooling Paint Colors To Beat The Summer Heat

Summers can be scorching, and with excessive heat waves enveloping the West, this summer is no exception. Everyone is looking for an edge to beat the heat. That might mean time in the pool or another body of water, a trip to the mall, or blasting fans and air conditioning at home. Did you know choosing the right paint color can be another trick to help cool down a space, and one that doesn’t involve touching that thermostat? It’s true! In hot climates, it can be beneficial to paint a home’s exterior white. This reflects heat and keeps temperatures cooler than if the structure were painted an alternate color.
So what about a home’s interior? Well, white can be a favorite choice for designers indoors as well. In fact, LA-based interior designer Chris Barrett often relies on Droplets (DEW381), a cool white with slight gray undertones, to create light, airy spaces. That said, below we’re exploring which other paint colors also give off that cooling effect and will give any space a chilled out vibe. Try these cooling paint colors to beat the summer heat.
Fleur de Sel (DEGR55)
One place to start is looking at our recently released Dunn-Edwards New Neutrals Collection. In fact, 80 hues of this hand-selected 160 color collection are grays and cool neutrals. These cool colors are also classically relaxed and easily elegant, making them able to harmonize with nearly every design style. Fleur de Sel is a light, salty neutral gray color inspired by the flower-like pattern of salt crystals that form on the seawater once it evaporates. Pair it with a charcoal and crisp, cool white for a modern, industrial color palette that will have you feeling as cold as steel.
Dreamy Blue (DE5812)
Breezy, light blue paint colors are some of the Best Blues To Paint Your Porch Ceiling. And not only are these types of blues a classic selection for summer’s favorite outdoor living area, they’re perfect for inside as well. Such colors are reminiscent of clear blue skies and cooling blue waters, associations that give soft blue paint colors such as Dreamy Blue cooling characteristics and makes them an ideal choice to help turn down the heat at home this summer.
Sonoma Sage (DET522)
Find serenity from summer heat in sage greens. This mid-tone silver green is an ideal sage green paint color to cool a space down and give it home a soft, cool earthy feel.
Pine Mist (DE5534)
Subtle greens make perfect cooling colors. And for an even more subtle green tone than Sonoma Sage, look to one of our top-selling green paint colors, Pine Mist. This calming hue can make any room in a home a respite from the summer heat.
