Try These Newer Neutrals
It’s no secret that gray is a favorite neutral in the world of design. In fact, gray had been trending over the last decade of the 2010s in home design and remodeling as a signifier of all things new and refreshed—a trend referred to, by The Atlantic, as the ‘HGTV-fication of America.’ Relaxed yet elegant, gray provides a clean palette while also providing for a bit of intrigue as well, making it a neutral go-to paint color. An overwhelming interest in newer neutrals such as warm grays, browns, beiges, and other charming non-white neutral options is what helped fuel Dunn-Edwards’ fresh New Neutrals Color Collection. In honor of this hand-selected collection of 160 livable hues, we’re taking a look at how 6 non-traditional neutrals from browns to mauves and even greens can enliven a space while at the same time endowing it with all the comfort of home.
Cattail Marsh (DEBN59)
Part of our just-released New Neutrals Collection, Cattail Marsh is a midtone cool brown paint color with undertones of mossy green. Lend some of nature’s beauty to your space with this color named for scenic wetland. The color pairs well with gray blues and warm neutrals.
Marengo (DEGR54)
Bring the drama with Marengo, originating from the Spanish word for “dark.” Another New Neutral from our fresh collection of 160 hand-selected hues, this cool, charcoal gray paint color also has a touch of blue and black undertones.
Bone (DEC765)
If you follow design trends on social media, you likely know that beige is all the rage. When it comes to designer favorite beiges, Carly Waters of Carly Waters Style relies on a paint color like Bone, which is a warm neutral, in order to soften a space and provide a warm and cozy feeling.
Moonstone Beach (DEBN62)
Moonstone Beach is a light, warm greige color and part of our New Neutrals Collection. A touch of gray gives this subtle, soft color a sense of balance and tranquility. Inspired by the beautiful, wild and rustic beach along the central coast of California, Moonstone Beach adds a sense of balance and calm to any design space and is the perfect choice for beach cottage design styles.
Wild Maitake (DEBN24)
Another one of our hand-selected hues from our New Neutrals Collection, Wild Maitake is a midtone warm taupe with just a touch of gray and brown. Also a warm neutral, this neutral paint color can help engender a comfortable and weathered aesthetic.
Gunsmoke (DET510)
Gunsmoke is one of Dunn-Edwards top-selling green paint colors. What makes this color one of our favorite greens? Well the smoky, gray-green is a complex neutral making it an ideal pick to add intrigue to a classic color palette.
