The Cutest Cookie Dough Factory! Welcome to Scoopwell’s Dough Bar
05/08/2019 | Sara McLean |
Set among restaurants and business at Uptown Plaza in Phoenix, Ariz., is a new cookie dough shop named Scoopwell’s Dough Bar. Scoopwell’s Dough Bar is a gourmet cookie dough company serving dough and mix’ins that you can eat unbaked or enjoy after baking at home.
The owners, John and Kendra Scheer, the husband-and wife-team behind Scoopwell’s, recently moved to Phoenix from New York City and wanted to capitalize on the growing edible cookie dough trend. Before opening the shop, they tested the market by opening a pop-up shop at the Tempe Public Market, selling out of their product.
DESIGN AND COLOR
Scoopwell’s is situated at Uptown Plaza, which has a unique retro vibe. Many Mid-century modern architectural features and neon are infused within the plaza among the crafted businesses and restaurants.
The space itself was a fun challenge for KatzDesignGroup, the designers for the shop. “The shape of the shell space looked like an abstract state of New Jersey so there were many odd angles to overcome. We had
a lot of fun with fabricating the custom gears that are exposed in the ceiling. The shop is modeled to be “the cutest cookie dough factory” said Beth Katz, owner of KatzDesignGroup.
The color palette of the space was chosen in concert with the branding elements. KatzDesignGroup worked with Dede Radford, designer support representative of for the Arizona market, in finding the right products for both the interior and exterior.
BRANDING
How do you stand out among the shops and restaurants dotting the plaza? Using a combination of unique color and creative branding, AWE Collective generated the catchy retro design and branding palette.
THE OUTCOME
And what do the customers think? Katz said, “Patrons walk in and smile. They feel like they are in a special space that makes them happy. The owners say that people walk in and can’t stop looking around. The space is fun, creative and delicious!” See the reactions on opening day!
The Scheers couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome, as well. “Picking a color that was aesthetically pleasing both on the inside woodwork and the outside façade was one of the greatest design challenges we
incurred through construction. However, the unique mint color that our designer (Beth Katz) and the team at Dunn-Edwards came up with has proved to be a showstopper. Even non-customers find themselves venturing into Scoopwell’s to ask to take photos due to the color’s unique ability to standout, while highlighting all of the other incredible detail the store has to offer as well,” Kendra Scheer said.
