Spring Modernism 2023
Dunn-Edwards just marked another successful year of participation in the Spring Modernism signature February celebration held in Palm Springs, CA. The annual event highlights mid-century modern architecture, art, interior and landscape design, and vintage culture in the Palm Springs area of Southern California. Attendees returned in droves to enjoy the tours, events and lectures held throughout the city.
The mission of Modernism Week is to celebrate and foster appreciation of architecture and design, as well as contemporary thinking in those fields, by encouraging education, preservation and sustainable modern living as represented in the greater Palm Springs area. And Dunn-Edwards was proud to return and be the exclusive paint sponsor of Spring Modernism, highlighting paint coatings and color during the festivities. Here’s a recap of our participation in the celebrations:
Camp
CAMP (Community and Meeting Place) is centrally located in downtown Palm Springs and the epicenter of Spring Modernism, providing attendees a go-to spot for lectures, bus tours, events, shopping, dining and learning more about Dunn-Edwards colors and paint products. This year, a new, free color consultation program was offered to those who signed up and our exclusive Color Field Guide was handed out—a program displaying a range of locations where Dunn-Edwards paint colors and paint coatings were featured.
Yoasis by Grace Home Furnishings
The aptly named ‘Yoasis’ (a play on the home’s location on Yosemite Drive and its appeal as an oasis of vacation-minded tranquility) is a bold lesson in the merging of styles. Blending bohemian and Hollywood regency styles in this 1965 mid-century modern dream home, vibrant colors balanced with vintage touches define the interiors. The Dunn-Edwards color palette provided a seamless backdrop to the iconic surroundings.

Hi-Sun by H3K Design
Designed by Charles Du Bois and built by the Alexander Construction Company in 1963 as the model home for the Las Palmas neighborhood’s Summit Estates development, this home is the personal residence of Kevin Kemper and Howard Hawkes of H3K Home+Design. The home’s Hawaiian flair and other original mid-century modern features, such as the living room’s stone fireplace, were retained as the house was remodeled to reflect the designers’ signature style. The Dunn-Edwards colors were chosen by H3K to reflect the final vision.

Shag Panel and Featured Art
This year, Dunn-Edwards was honored to feature the latest artwork by the artist Shag, where a curated color collection based on his work was also on display. We also hosted a book signing and participated in a panel discussion as the moderator with Charles Phoenix to review his illustrious career in art that defines tiki and mid-century modern culture with humor—and loads of color.
