Sierra House — A Thomboy Properties Mid-century Masterpiece

Thomboy Properties, Inc., a local design/build company headed by Jackie Thomas and DeeAnn McCoy, showcased its newest property to Palm Springs’ Modernism Week crowds — and Dunn-Edwards was proud to donate paint to this Mid-century Modern marvel called Sierra House. Located on Sierra Way in Indian Canyons, this gem of a home was transformed from a rundown abode with overgrown landscaping, an eyesore to the neighbors, into a Mid-century home with a mix of contemporary and vintage elements, creating a new, unique, prized jewel in the neighborhood.

The design of the home includes four bedrooms, a contemporary kitchen, split-level living and dining areas, soaring 14-foot ceilings and a gorgeous exterior pool enveloped by the home. The color palette used on the property was Warm White (DEW380) and Black (DEA002), with accents of emerald (DEA130 Lucky Clover), complementing the use of bold wall covering as a backdrop to the vintage and contemporary furnishings throughout the interior and exterior.

Shawn Savage, a local artist that McCoy and Thomas use for their projects, also created 27 original paintings using Dunn-Edwards paint and colors. At the Dunn-Edwards soirée held during Modernism Week, one of his
original paintings was even given away as the grand prize to a lucky attendee.

Their company philosophy is ingrained within each project — “respect the beauty and simplicity of design from the past and reimagine it for the way people live today. Ensure that work, which was authentic then, remains
authentic now.” McCoy and Thomas have renovated 16 properties and counting in the Palm Springs area, having created a successful formula that works for them — a vision and a tight budget — both which have developed over time. They love the challenge of bringing a home from the brink of a wrecking ball back to new
life. With the renovations underway, they also look into the background of the homes, often finding historically relevant information such as well-known Mid-century architects who built many of the homes in the area. Once lavishly restored, the homes go back on the market, selling for more than $1 million.
