Hyacinth In Greek Mythology
In Greek mythology Hyacinthus was an attractive Spartan prince who caught the eye of Apollo, the Greek god of sun and light. However, their love was cut short. One day while Apollo was teaching Hyacinthus to throw the discus for the game of quoits, a strong wind took hold of Apollo’s discus, causing it to strike Hyacinthus in the head. The blow was fatal, and Hyacinthus died in Apollo’s arms. Apollo vowed to always remember his fallen lover, and from Hyacinthus’ spilled blood Apollo created a namesake flower, the hyacinth.
