A Brief History of The Color Orange
Orange is a prevalent color in nature as it is found in numerous fruits and vegetables from its namesake citrus fruit to fall’s favorite gourd, the pumpkin. And because of its association with the changing seasons, orange is considered a color of transition. When we look back at the history of orange, the mineral realgar was utilized by ancient Egyptians to create an orange toned pigment for tomb paintings.
Further, in some eastern cultures and religions, the color orange holds great symbolism and significance. From Confucianism to Buddhism and Hinduism, the color orange is often found in imagery and dress. For example, Buddhist and Hindu done orange robes denoting the color’s implied sacred and pure characteristics.
Additionally, the color orange was favored by impressionist painters such as Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet. But due to its difficulty to produce the use of the color orange was, in the early 20th century, often reserved for theatrical or eye-catching instances, notes CNN.
Whether painting a front door or tackling a bigger transition, look to November's color of the
month, Pumpkin Spice Latte (DEFD23) to cultivate a cozy and nostalgic joyfulness in your space.
