May Color of the Month: Purple Springs (DE5955)

Why It’s May's Color of the Month
Before we jump into May’s color of the month, last month we looked at the blossoming of new blooms and the new season with the hue Hint of Spring. And while we all may not be getting outside and enjoying nature as much as we might like in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, there’s no doubt that the bright colors of spring and summer are a much-needed boost we crave right now. That’s exactly why we’re crushing on Perfect Palette’s® heavenly Purple Springs (DE5955) for May’s color of the month. The special color of purple conjures images of the vast lavender fields in Provence, France and reminds us that we will travel and explore once again.
Layering Purples
When it comes to crafting an inspired design, we know that it’s often the totality of colors, textures, prints and patterns that make a look, well, a “look.” We’re in the business of playing with colors and tones and not limiting ourselves to just one shade, and with so many different options, how can we? In fact, we see purple as part of current color conversations and love its various hues so much that we included vibrant grape-toned Cabaret (DE5992) in our 2020 trend and color story The Silk Road. This is a rich purple that complements the palette of jewel tone colors as part of a throwback to the decadent color palettes of the roaring 1920s. In fact, Veranda cites purple as one of its top designer color picks for 2020, while Glamour sees purple influencing fashion-forward designs as well, describing “grape compote” as its go to this season.
Designing with Purple
On the face of it, purple might seem utterly feminine and soft, yet it’s a surprisingly versatile color with which to design a room around. Looking across the spectrum from May’s color of the month Purple Springs to more aubergine, brown-infused tones, unveils a slew of colors that emit power and refinement. From light, airy and delicate tones like Snow Plum (DE5973), or dramatic and mysterious hues like Purple Potion (DE5958), our Perfect Palette lets you explore the breadth of purple’s power. So as we highlight Purple Springs (DE5955) as May’s Color of the Month, here are several ways to design with or incorporate purples into your spaces:
- Add one or more adjacent purple tones like Smashed Grape (DE5963) and Concord Jam (DE5964) in decor, accessories and accents to create a sophisticated, monochromatic look with depth and layering.
- Romantic aspirations: Cultivate an air of ethereal romance by pairing Purple Springs with other lighter hues like Alpine Moon (DE5953) or York Plum (DE5968).
- Keep a room with May’s color of the month sleek and modern by choosing Warm White (DEW380) or Cool December (DEW383) on the trim and baseboards. Accent with dominant yellows like Confident Yellow (DEA117). Then complete with furniture in organic wood tones.
