June Color of the Month: Lake Reflection DET556

Why It’s June’s Color of the Month
June’s Color of the Month, Lake Reflection (DET556), is a perfect representation of the things we love most about summer, cool bodies of water and clear blue skies that make the days feel endless. It conjures the fun and frivolity that goes hand-in-hand with jumping into one of the numerous lakes throughout the Western U.S. on a hot summer’s day. Lake Reflection is a beautiful pastel blue-green hue that will make any space feel relaxed and fresh. Its uplifting and calming energy is exactly what we need to help kick off summer.
Another aspect we love about this top blue paint color is the fact Lake Reflection is part of our Then, Now & Forever® Collection, our unique collection of historically accurate colors, inspired by architecture of the American West. In fact, the colors are original to two architectural eras - Victorian and Art Moderne.
Painting With Historical Accuracy
With regard to this blue paint color’s place in Victorian architecture, this hue was identified in early 20th-Century San Francisco-based paint manufacturer, Whittier Coburn Co’s, catalog as the color Piazza Blue. This blue tone worked well in combination with the variety of yellows and greens prominent in Victorian Era homes.
Additionally, Lake Reflection is accurate to the Art Moderne architectural movement. This bright, clear, pastel blue was identified as an interior hue of San Francisco’s Maritime Museum, an Art Moderne building located on the city’s waterfront.
Designing With Pastel Blues
This mixture of pastel green-blue is versatile and the perfect addition to a space with a relaxed ambiance. You can use this color to help add pizzazz to an outdoor space that may be lacking. It provides a sense of balance in neutral spaces. Lake Reflection makes a great addition to Mediterranean-influenced décor. To achieve this relaxed, Grecian island look, pair Lake Reflection with one of our favorite whites, Igloo (DEW379). The key to achieving this look is to keep a very neutral palette of white and creams. Then bring in colors by accessorizing with items like potted plants and, of course, adding those perfect touches of blue with Lake Reflection painted on doors and window shutters for that eye-catching pop and balance!
Lake Reflection is also great as a focal point. In fact, it works in a Modern-Bohemian setting as well. The neutrals in this space are inspired by a mixture of wooden tones in addition to natural materials like rattan. Accessorizing with Moroccan leather poufs and throw pillows is an easy way to bring in the bohemian vibe. Have fun with it, mix different patterns and textures to create depth. Try using Trade Winds (DET647) and Cameo Role (DET671) to achieve a similar look.
