Dunn-Edwards Wins Sustainability Award for its LEED Gold-Certified Paint Manufacturing Plant
PHOENIX (May 30, 2012) Dunn-Edwards, the Southwest's leading manufacturer of premium paint, received the Sustainability Award this month by the Arizona Manufacturers Council (AMC) as part of its Manufacturer of the Year Awards. The AMC recognizes top manufacturing businesses in the state each year in four categories: Manufacturer of the Year (Small and Large), Sustainability and Innovation.
“We are the only LEED Gold-certified paint manufacturing facility in the country, and the paint we produce exceeds industry standards for being eco-friendly,” said Mark Alling, vice president, manufacturing. “It is rewarding to be recognized by our peers with the AMC Sustainability Award, and to be an industry leader in eco-efficient principles - all part of our greener by design® philosophy.”
According to AMC, which is affiliated with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the award winners are companies that represent the very best of manufacturing in Arizona and are well deserving of the recognition they received. The competition is state¬wide, open to all Arizona manufacturers and salutes the contributions its members make to the state, both economically and socially. The winners were selected by a panel of distinguished community members and industry experts. Past winners include Intel, Honeywell, and Raytheon.
Located in Phoenix, Dunn-Edwards' 336,000-sq.-ft. facility was custom designed to be the greenest and most efficient in the coatings industry. “We have incorporated innovative, energy-efficient equipment and protocols, such as unique high-efficiency process equipment with integrated dust-suppression technology, so that no particulates are emitted to ambient air, and advanced wastewater recycling techniques to conserve water. Our systems are classified as ultra-low discharge, meaning that waste generation is greatly minimized,” said Alling.
In the 11 months since the plant began operations, it has garnered numerous awards, including a Real Estate and Development (RED) Award from the Arizona Commercial Real Estate (AZRE) for Best Industrial Project; winner of NAIOP's Best Industrial Redevelopment Project in 2010; an Award of Merit from Engineering News-Record in the Southwest; and the 2012 Manufacturing Leadership 100 award for Operational Excellence, by Manufacturing Executive.
