Dunn-Edwards Receives RED Award for Best Industrial Project
New LEED Gold-Certified Paint Manufacturing Facility
PHOENIX, AZ (March 27, 2012) Dunn-Edwards, the Southwest's leading manufacturer of premium paint, received a Real Estate and Development (RED) Award from the Arizona Commercial Real Estate (AZRE) for Best Industrial Project for its new 336,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing facility. The 7th Annual RED Awards recognize the most notable commercial real estate projects of 2011 and the construction teams involved. AZRE held an open call for nominations and a record 116 projects were submitted by architects, contractors, developers and brokerage firms in Arizona.
Custom designed to be the greenest and most efficient in the coatings industry, the plant was awarded LEED Gold certification; is the winner of NAIOP's Best Industrial Redevelopment Project in 2010; and an Award of Merit winner by Engineering News-Record in the Southwest. Dunn-Edwards placed significant effort on energy efficiency in its new industrial warehouse by using recycled materials to build its facility. Upon completion, 31.7 percent of the supplies were recycled, equivalent to a savings of $772,255. The operations design incorporates innovative technology for the reuse of manufacturing by-products, including waste water and particulate matter.
By combining various distribution facilities toward a central location, Dunn-Edwards cut its overall cost by more than 40 percent. It utilized new marketed products implementing robotics and worked with BIM.
