2012 Pasadena Showcase House of Design
Reflects the 1927 Spanish Colonial Revival Estate
LOS ANGELES (April 18, 2012) Dunn-Edwards Paint, the exclusive paint supplier for the Pasadena Showcase House of Design for more than 45 years, has unveiled the color palette chosen for the exquisite Spanish-style estate in La Cañada Flintridge that has been transformed for the tour by 31 design professionals.
“Acclaimed designer Michael Berman was instrumental in developing this year's palette. Based on a harvest and wine theme, it features rich colors of naturally occurring tones that perfectly complement the home,” explained Dunn-Edwards color marketing manager, Sara McLean. She points out that among the factors influencing this year's color palette were the architecture of the estate and the surrounding landscape. “The color selection began six months ago when a theme was decided and the fabrics were chosen. We then make the recommendations on paint colors that will thread through all the Showcase rooms.” The tour runs April 15 through May 13, 2012.
Known as The Robbins Home, after the family it was built for in 1927, the 6,429-square-foot estate was designed by John Winford Byers of Santa Monica, a self-trained architect and builder who was fascinated with native California architecture and its Mexican and Spanish roots. The property includes a guesthouse, swimming pool and greenhouse. The original builder, Glen O. Winget, served as the contractor for many well-known architects, including Paul Williams. The Los Angeles Times described the home in a June 26, 1927 article as a “beautiful Spanish home…” “…a sixteen-room villa…which will grace an estate site of approximately two acres.”
Paint was provided for the exterior and interior rooms, using a variety of Dunn-Edwards' premium low VOC products. To see the highlighted color palette for the 2012 Pasadena Showcase House of Design, click here.
