A Raskind Revival in Leimert Park
01/17/2022 | Sara McLean |
Nestled on a tree-lined street in Leimert Park, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, sits a quaint Spanish bungalow recently brought back to life by Rebecca and Jared Raskind, the renovation team behind several past projects we’ve highlighted on specs+spaces. This most recent project showcases what happens when the original character of a home is updated, bringing joy to the neighborhood and the new owner. Read on for our interview on details of this home renovation:
Please describe what drew you to this home as your next renovation project:
I loved the Spanish architecture and the little courtyard in the back. The home had been renovated with modern finishes that didn’t do any justice to the original architecture, so I was inspired to bring a fresh eye to the home, blending playful contemporary finishes with a nod to the original architecture.
Were there any design obstacles you came across, and if so, how did you overcome them?
While the home had a traditional Spanish exterior, the interior didn’t have any original details, so a lot of the obstacles were around trying to bring these details back in a fresh way. We added arches, color and texture
that elicited an emotional response from many who saw the home.
What Dunn-Edwards colors and products did you use and where? And what was your inspiration for the
color palette?
One of the first decisions I made for the home was using the Concrete Collaborative x Alex Proba artist series tile shown on the front patio. From there, I pulled paint colors to complement that colorful palette. The whole home color palette ended up being very warm and pretty.
What was the outcome of the project? When we last spoke, it sounded like you had intense interest, and
people were stopping, by asking about the property, even as we were talking.
Yes! The project sold very quickly and was very popular. I’m so glad it resonated with buyers as well as the
neighbors.
What projects do we have to look forward to seeing from you next?
I’m working on another Spanish home in Mid City, as well as a gorgeous Mid-century home in the Hollywood Hills and a home with an ocean-view pool in Del Mar. I have a few other client projects where we will be using Dunn-Edwards colors as well.
