2022 Home Design Trends
01/17/2022 | Sara McLean |
With 2021 behind us, we look forward to 2022 and what will be on the horizon in home décor. Here are six predictions we believe will be critical to residential design as the leading themes of nature and well-being continue to permeate all facets of design.
A Tranquil Sanctuary
Filled with soft, neutral, earthy hues and accents of grassy green and sky blue, personal spaces will continue to support the idea of a retreat or oasis, bringing the outdoors in and infusing soothing tactile experiences with cozy, natural materials and plenty of houseplants.

’70s Revival
Warm and welcoming hues with retro décor highlight this revival, occurring in fashion and interiors. Browns, golds and rust are the backbone of this color palette, with pops of grassy greens to balance the aesthetic.
Warm Neutrals
A return of warm neutrals and browns is here. We’ve noted this trend for the past several seasons and even named a cinnamon brown our 2022 Color of the Year, Art and Craft (DET682). From modern to traditional home styles, warm neutrals impart a cozy, comfortable and elegant touch to any setting.
Feature Walls
Have a large wall you’re not sure what to do with? Feature walls are back, and ideas are proliferating social media, highlighting fresh ways to design this space. It provides a range of options for every budget, from simple to complex paint designs and the incorporation of wallcoverings, fabric, wood or tile to transform a space.

Using Paint to Create Drama
Paint is an inexpensive option to use for a variety of artistic splashes of color. Murals, painted arches, accent walls and geometric designs are just a few ways this trend is being highlighted in social media. Expect more variety in the upcoming year as we continue to reenvision our homes for a fresh start.

Color and Pattern Everywhere
As we emerge from the past two years with a bit more optimism, people are looking forward to showing off their homes again, and what better way than by going maximalist! Embracing splashy colors and patterns,
going bold is a resurging trend for luxury residences. Vibrant hues of saffron, curry, burgundy, hunter green and bright blues display an appreciation of pattern and design that hasn’t been felt for several years in this market.
