The 2017 Hospitality Design Expo was three days of color, texture, and emerging design trends for the hospitality industry. This year’s expo in Las Vegas hosted a unique combination of true leaders and creative risk-takers all innovating when it comes to hospitality design trends. Dunn-Edwards was privileged take part, showcasing one of this year’s hottest color trends, our 2017 Color of the Year Honey Glow (DE5354).

Color was a huge focus of hospitality design trends at this year’s event. As makers of the highest quality paint trusted by both design experts and painting professionals, it’s a huge focus for us as well. At the expo we saw eye-catching shades of pink, teal and turquoise used in a variety of settings. Millennial pink, hot pink, pool blue and yellow were all prevalent. These kinds of vacation-themed hues are on trend for the hospitality
industry, particularly hotel design. It is worth noting these colors are also favorites on social media platforms such as Instagram. Pops of red and purple continue to be hits, as well.

We saw metallic finishes, such as gold, as a hospitality design trend at 2017 HD Expo, as well. This aligns with our 2017 color of the year, Honey Glow. Our resident Dunn-Edwards color expert Sara McLean tells us “[Honey Glow] is a warm, golden yellow with brown undertones — a globally recognized inspiration that matches with everything from earthy, neutral palettes or colors like chocolate, red, gray, green and orange.” A common hospitality design trend theme throughout the expo was the glow of warm yellows and golds. These hot colors also helped define a larger hospitality design trend at 2017 HD Expo — a play on earth elements, materials, and textures.

For example, sandswept effects, marbling, and rust multi-color are playing a large role to shape hospitality design trends. These design trends add layers to any hotel or restaurant environment.

Further, the natural and earthy inspired themes carried through into the latest furniture trends showcased at the expo. While nature-inspired surfaces are big, it is also important to note that modern, laser-cut intricate patterns are also on trend. This includes the limited edition Monterey furniture line from designer Badgley Mischka (Monterey Lounge Chair and Credenza pictured below). This hospitality design trend has the iconic fashion brand expanding into luxury boutique hotel interiors.

Dunn-Edwards had a great time both, showcasing at, and exploring the 2017 HD Expo. While there were a number of exhibitors and styles at the 2017 HD Expo, we love sharing a few of latest hospitality design trends that caught our eye. Overall, inspiration from number of sources — like nature as well as global influences — continue to drive hospitality design trends, including color, furniture, material and texture.
