The Art of Color: Asia Shapiro’s Journey as a Dunn-Edwards In-Home Color Advisor

Asia Shapiro’s color journey is a kaleidoscope of creativity. Beginning her journey with Dunn-Edwards in 2018 as a Professional Color Advisor (PCA), Asia’s passion for design has evolved, leading her to become an In-Home Color Advisor almost two years ago.
Asia’s artistic roots trace back to her education at San Francisco State University, where she initially studied Film and Theatre with a focus on set design. Her step into the film industry paved the way for a realization: her passion for interior design. With a background in the arts and the influence of her architect father, Asia transitioned from set design to interior design, earning a degree in interior design and finding a practical yet artistic outlet for her passion.
During her work as a PCA at Dunn-Edwards, Asia grew the desire to work with customers more closely in their homes, leading her to apply for and land the In-Home Color Advisor position. The prospect of helping customers find the perfect colors for their spaces, coupled with the opportunity to understand their lighting firsthand, ignited Asia’s enthusiasm.
Asia takes the pre-consultation meeting as an opportunity to fully understand the customer and their preferences. She navigates the spectrum from clients with a clear vision to those in need of inspiration. This approach ensures that Asia is well-prepared to present a curated selection of color options during the in-home meeting.
Perfecting the art of compromise is crucial for Asia when it comes to dealing with conflicting opinions, especially among couples or family members. Asia strives to find middle ground solutions, offering her professional advice to steer the project in the right direction.
The in-home meetings are where Asia’s magic unfolds. She arrives at the home and walks through the customer’s space, holding up color chips, considering lighting variations, and ensuring the harmony of colors with furniture and cabinets. Her love for problem-solving and the thrill of piecing together a color puzzle shine through in the in-home meeting.
One memorable project for Asia involved a beach home, where generations of a family sought Asia’s expertise. The result, a dark and dramatic hue called Spirit Mountain (DE5795) paired with a pristine white, proved to be a timeless choice, earning Asia repeat business from the satisfied customers.
Trends come and go, but Asia’s advice remains steadfast: opt for colors you love that stand the test of time. Asia thrives on challenges, especially when clients desire pops of bold colors to incorporate into their home projects.
What keeps Asia going is her commitment to her customers. She values the relationships she builds with customers who trust her expertise. The Dunn-Edwards community of color advisors adds another layer of support, creating an encouraging and creative environment.
Encouraging customers to step out of their comfort zones, Asia is a champion of color. She recommends Dunn-Edwards in-home color services for their hands-on approach, guiding customers through their color journey and building their confidence.
As for Asia’s favorite colors? Encore Teal (DEA182) and Moss Cottage (DET608) are her go-to choices, embodying her love for rich jewel-tone colors. She’s also excited about Skipping Stones (DET567), Dunn-Edwards 2024 Color of the Year, anticipating a trendsetter in the making.
