Dunn-Edwards Awards Two Grand Prizes To Student Designers
Annual Emerging Professionals Design Competition awards $3,000 to grand prize winners
Los Angeles, CA – August 30, 2022 – Dunn-Edwards Corporation announced the winners of its Emerging Professionals Design Competition today. The student design competition, eligible to emerging professionals of architecture and design, gives participants the opportunity to gain real-world experience and receive feedback from industry professionals.
The competition has two categories: residential and commercial. Both categories required the participants to incorporate Dunn-Edwards 2022 Color of the Year, Art and Craft (DET682). The grand prize winners are taking home industry-level experience and a $3,000 cash prize.
The grand prize winner for the residential category is Aleksandra Tolovikova, a UC Berkeley Extension student. Her design project was an impressive kitchen for a new-build bungalow in Tucson, Arizona. The grand prize winner for the commercial category is Calvin Ma, a UCLA Extension/Cal Poly Pomona student. His design project was an eye-catching exhibitor’s booth for a furnishings and finishes trade show.
Sara A. McLean, Color Expert + Stylist at Dunn-Edwards, participated as a judge for the competition for her second year, “I believe it’s important for students to gain insight into these real-world scenarios before they graduate and move into a design career and continue to develop their skills. I enjoy judging this competition because these students are the future of innovation and color.” The remainder of the jury for the 2022 Emerging Professionals Design Competition included Sarah Stieber, Muralist and Jewelry Maker, Anjana Joshi, Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Cañada College and Chabot College, and Jason Lai, Owner/Principal Designer at JL Interiors.
Since 2017, the Emerging Professionals Program (EPP), by Dunn-Edwards, has partnered with students to provide industry knowledge, trend-leading inspiration and color tools, and skills enhancement opportunities for the next generation of design professionals to leave their mark on the world.
