Why Neon Pink Is July’s Color of the Month
Our newest Color of the Month for July is Neon Pink (DEFD10), a dynamic, statement-making bright pink paint color. Neon Pink, as the name might suggest, is not for the faint of heart. This bold pink paint color is for the adventurous spirit, seeking to get noticed. This sizzling pink is the perfect accent for your front door, in fact, Neon Pink is part of our new Front Door Limited Edition Color Collection. These hand-selected colors provide a fun way to show your personality to the world at first glance. For a little inspiration, see how other bold pink paint colors have enlivened these front doors. Pair Neon Pink with DEHW07 Sugar Swizzle and DET600 Dolphin Tales for the perfect trim and accent.
We’re all about the color pink, whether it's for a historic aesthetic to pair with Victorian architecture, or curating flirty pink-inspired palettes to gear up for summer. While Neon Pink is a far cry from the last decade’s omnipresent dusty neutral, Millennial Pink, our July color of the month can be taken even further than the front door - applying it in other spaces that invite attention like entryways and dining rooms.
A Brief History of Bold & Neon Pinks
Neon pink and other neon colors aren’t found on a traditional color wheel, however they can be found in other color systems, such as the Hexadecimal Code, which is how color is conveyed on websites.
In 1966 pop artist Andy Warhol showcased his Cow Wallpaper [Pink on Yellow], featuring a neon pink cow repeated across a yellow background at the Leo Castelli Gallery in Los Angeles. The work was the first in a series of wallpapers Warhol would create over the next several years.
In the 1970s, bold pink became the color representing gay rights activism, particularly in the form of a pink tringle, in effect, according to TIME, reclaiming and resignifying a symbol, which decades before, had been used by the Nazis during the Holocaust as a way of identify gay men. Further, neon pink’s high visibility made it a standout (literally) during the over-the-top 1980s and ‘90s when neon colors seemingly defined the times.
Today a resurgence in neon pink in design has come in the form of text neon signs. These signs have been utilized as a way to instantly add fun, levity, and a talking piece to just about any space.
